Watch Video: Mileage of 67 KM per liter, MG HS PHEV becomes the face of the future car in India

The automobile industry in India is rapidly moving towards electric and hybrid technology, and in this context, MG HS PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) has emerged as a very interesting and attractive option.

Its technology with a mileage of 67 kilometers per liter and almost eliminating dependence on petrol is a relief news for Indian customers. Especially for those whose daily running is in the range of 30–60 km.

PHEV technology: No petrol, full range on battery

MG HS PHEV has a 16.6 kWh battery, which can cover a distance of about 67 km in electric mode alone. That is, if you travel about 30 km up and down daily, you will not need petrol. This is its biggest feature.

The 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and the electric motor combine to make this car powerful. When they work together, the car produces a total power of 284 PS and a torque of 480 Nm. This means it can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 7.5 seconds – a powerful performance.

Tech-packed and feature-packed

The MG HS PHEV is great not only in terms of mileage and performance, but also in its features. It gets many features of Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) Level 2 – such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Other than this:

  • 360° camera
  • LED headlamps and taillamps
  • 10-speed automatic transmission
  • Blue hybrid detailing
  • Front and rear disc brakes (with red brake calipers)
  • Premium interior with brushed metal and satin finishing

Interiors: Premium and modern

The interior of the MG HS PHEV comes in a two-tone color scheme (white and indigo blue), which gives it a royal and luxurious feel. The driver seat comes with 6-way electric adjustment, while there is also 4-way electric adjustment for the passenger.

The 12-inch digital driver display, which provides information about EV range, charging status, speed and real-time navigation, makes this vehicle even smarter.

Technology like AR Navigation (Augmented Reality Navigation) is also seen in it, which makes it even easier to follow the route.

Bose speakers and smart infotainment

Bose’s 8-speaker sound system (4 speakers + 4 titers + subwoofer) delivers a great audio experience. The 10-inch floating touchscreen, which supports smartphone connectivity, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth and in-built apps, makes it a smart car.

Boot Space and Comfort

There is a boot space of 425 liters, which may be a bit limited due to the battery, but is sufficient for daily use.

The rear seats are comfortable and the flat floor allows three passengers to sit comfortably. Panoramic sunroof, air bags, rear AC vents, cup holders, and seats with premium finishing make it a perfect SUV for the family as well.

There are shortcomings, but upgrades are expected

While the MG HS PHEV excels in many ways, it falls short on a few fronts:

  • Missing Type-C USB port
  • Slightly outdated dashboard layout
  • EV mode range (67 km) could have been extended
  • Structural design feels more like a crossover than an SUV

However, these shortcomings are minor and MG is expected to improve them in the facelift or the next generation.

Launch and competitors

MG has already showcased this vehicle in India, and it is likely to be launched soon. Currently, the company is involved in projects like Magster, M9 and SBST, but the HS PHEV is going to be launched in the near future. It can compete with Tata Harrier, Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass.
